Virtual Herbarium Title

Bidens beckii

Water Marigold

Habitat: Floating leaved to submersed plant community; usually found in soft sediments.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

· The few emerged leaves are lance-shaped with toothed margins, arranged oppositely and directly attached to the stem

· Submerged leaves are finely divided, branched and oppositely (but appearing whorled) arranged on the stem

· Yellow daisy-like flowers emerge above the surface of the water on a hardy stalk; this feature makes it easy to distinguish from other submerged plants which have similar looking underwater leaves

Look alikes include: fanwort , and species of the water-milfoil genus.
